Case study
2014 NIssan X-trail
REAL WORK. REAL RESULTS.
Multiple warning lights. Park/Neutral indicator
missing from the instrument cluster, and the transmission was shifting harshly.
Initial Inspection
A full vehicle diagnostic scan was carried out which identified the following fault code:
- B2604 – Park/Neutral Switch Circuit
The fault code was cleared; however, it immediately returned whenever the gear selector was placed into Park or Neutral, indicating an active fault.
Diagnosis Process
The Park/Neutral switch was tested and found to be operating correctly, ruling it out as the source of the problem.
Attention then turned to the Transmission Control Module (TCM). A donor TCM was temporarily installed for testing purposes.
With the donor TCM fitted:
- The Park and Neutral indicators reappeared on the dashboard
- Transmission operation improved
- Fault symptoms were eliminated
- Recalibrated module settings
- Programmed and wrote IP characteristics to the TCM
- As part of the repair process, a transmission service was also completed
Outcome
Park and Neutral indicators restored Key system warning eliminated Transmission engaging correctly Harsh shifting concern resolved No fault codes returned after repairs Vehicle passed final road test and diagnostic checks
